Women's Integrated Cancer Services (WICS): progress in Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya and Zimbabwe

15 October 2026

Late diagnosis and poor access to care are driving unacceptably high death rates from breast and cervical cancer among women in Africa.

The Women's Integrated Cancer Services (WICS) initiative is changing this. Piloted in Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya and Zimbabwe with ministries of health, global health companies, nongovernmental organizations and local partners, WICS offers women screening for breast and cervical cancer together with hypertension, diabetes and mental health checks, in the primary health care facilities where they already seek care.

This film shows the progress made in the three countries, from integrated screening in Côte d'Ivoire and digital monitoring in Kenya to the selection of health centres in Zimbabwe. It also explains why scaling up and sustaining these services now matters.

“WICS is our promise to a healthier future — empowering communities, preventing illness, and proving early action saves lives.” Hon. Dr Douglas Mombeshora, Minister of Health and Child Care of Zimbabwe
