Emergency Measles and Polio Campaign Launched

Nairobi, 29 April 2006 -- The Minister for Health today launched the Emergency Measles and Polio Campaign. The national launch took place in Pumwani District of Nairobi Province. Hon. Dr. Wilfred Machage, Assistant Minister for Medical Services represented the Minister for Health, Hon. Charity Ngilu.

Intercountry Workshop on ?New Ways of Working in WHO?, Opens in Nairobi, Kenya

Nairobi, 11th July 2005-- The Director of Medical Services, Dr. James Nyikal officially opened an inter-country WHO workshop on new ways of working on behalf of the Minister for Health, Hon. Charity Ngilu. This workshop whose main objective is to address the critical issue of positioning WHO Office to better give technical support to country offices, has brought together WHO leadership from 15 countries in the African Region in addition to representatives from WHO Regional Office Brazzaville and WHO Headquarters Geneva.

Kenya Commemorates The 12th World No-Tobacco Day As Global Tobacco Survey Report Is Launched 31 May 2003

World No Tobacco Day 2003 whose theme is "Tobacco Free Film. Tobacco Free Fashion. Action ", was nationally commemorated on 31 May 2003 in Nakuru District, Rift Valley Province.

The Director of Medical Services, Dr. Richard Muga, represented the Chief Guest, Hon. Charity Ngilu, Minister for Health.

World TB day observance in Kenya kicks off with a WHO donation of TB drugs

20 March 2002 --The World Health Organization to-day handed over approximately 15 tons of life-saving tuberculosis ( TB ) drugs to the Republic of Kenya. These drugs worth over $ 200,000 US ( Kshs. 16,785,852.72 ) have been made available through a global partnership initiative, the Global Drug Facility (GDF) that was started early last year.

The WHO Representative to Kenya, Dr. Peter Eriki who spoke at the handing over ceremony, commended Kenya for being among the first 16 countries to qualify for this support from the Global Drug Facility.

Press briefing on Africa Malaria Day held Nairobi

22 April 2003 -- The Director of Medical Services for Kenya, Dr. Richard Muga, together with Roll Back Malaria partners, today briefed the media about the forthcoming Africa Malaria Day to be commemorated on 25 April 2003.

As part of the commemoration, the first progress report on malaria control and prevention in Africa will be officially launched.
