South Sudan, Uganda, and Kenya strengthen implementation of cross-border disease surveillance and outbreak response in East Africa
Juba 27 April, 2018: The Republic of South Sudan hosted a joint cross-border multi-sectoral disease surveillance meeting in Nimule, South Sudan from 24-26 April, 2018. Experts drawn from human, animal, environmental health and immigration sectors of South Sudan, Uganda, and Kenya deliberated on mechanisms to strengthen implementation of cross boarder disease surveillance and outbreak response in the region.

His parents grow concerned as his body is very stiff, he’s sweating profusely and his body temperature is extremely hot. In absolute panic, his father rushes him to a healthcare center and begs the doctor on duty to examine the child.
Health Access for All: The Kingdom of Swaziland commemorates World Health Day
The Kingdom of Swaziland joined the rest of the world in commemorating the World Health Day under the theme “Universal health coverage (UHC): everyone, everywhere”. This year’s celebrations marked the 70th birthday of the World Health Organization (WHO) as well the 40th anniversary of the Alma Ata Declaration of 1978 which called for health for all by the year 2000.

Dr Moeti meets UN Country Team and Bilateral Partners in Ghana
The WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, has concluded her three-day visit to Ghana at the invitation of the Ghanaian Authorities. The visit provided an opportunity for her to acquaint herself with ongoing efforts, successes and challenges as the country strives to improve the health and overall well-being of Ghanaians.

Dr Moeti paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Accompanying her were the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr Kwaku, Honourable Minister of Health, Madam Tina Mensah, WHO Country Representative, Dr Owen Kaluwa, Officials from WHO AFRO, Dr Kasolo and Dr Kizito and senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
In her discussions with the President, Dr Moeti first congratulated him on his nomination as co-Chair of the eminent Committee on SDGs and thanked the Government of Ghana for inviting her to visit Ghana
Dr Moeti calls on Ghana's Parliamentary Select Committee on Health
Dr Moeti and her team called on some members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health at the Parliament House to hold discussions on health related matters of interest. She applauded the Legislature for passing the LI for Mental Health Bill (MHB) and also the increase in districts offering mental health services. Dr Moeti mentioned that inadequate funding to support mental health programmes was a challenge in most African Countries, including Ghana.
