South Sudan set to vaccinate targeted healthcare and frontline workers operating in high risk states against Ebola

Juba 8 December, 2018 – The Ministry of Health of the Republic of South Sudan with support from the World Health Organization (WHO), DFID, GAVI vaccine alliance and other partners, is set to vaccinate targeted healthcare and frontline workers operating in high risk states bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) against Ebola virus disease (EVD) as part of national preparedness efforts.

World AIDS Day 2018 was observed in Eritrea on 1 December 2018 under the theme “Know your Status” in Keren at the stadium with enthusiasm. This year was the 30th anniversary to mark the day. The event was started with a very detailed, clear, attractive and educative presentation on current situation of HIV/AIDS both at global and national levels, by Dr Araya Berhane, Head of the communicable diseases control division.

This year’s  World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW)  commemoration event was organized by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), Ethiopian Food, Medicine and Health Care Administration and Authority (FMHACA), Veterinary Drug and Animal Feed Administration and Control Authority (VDFACA), National Animal health Diagnostic and Investigation Center (NAHDIC), Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), WHO, FAO and USAID/ Global Health Supply Chain Programme – Procurement Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) collaboratively with “One Health approach”.

WCO conducted a one day team building workshop on 22nd Nov, 2018 at Desalegn Hotel in Addis Ababa. The objective of this workshop was to enhance team spirit, staff motivation and morale, improve the ability to solve problem of the country office through individual contribution, and overall improves the organizational productivity towards contributing to the new ways of working in WHO.

PanPrep Project: Strengthening cross border emergency preparedness measures for the East African Community

WHO is working with the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) under the “Support to Pandemic Preparedness in Region” (PanPrep) project to examine methods of testing preparedness assumptions through the use of cross-border simulation exercises.

WHO has been selected to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate two simulation exercises, including one tabletop and one full-scale exercise. Both exercises are designed to test cross border preparedness measures in the EAC region.
