Monrovia, Liberia – In a significant boost to Liberia’s healthcare system, the World Health Organization (WHO) delivered a consignment of essential medicines, supplies and one  electroencephalography (EEG) machine and accessories to the Ministry of Health. This contribution will strengthen critical services, including maternal and newborn care, blood safety, laboratory confirmatory testing services and mental health.

Freetown, Sierra Leone: From 3–7 February 2025, the Government of Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), hosted a regional study tour for representatives from six Francophone countries—Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Niger—to observe firsthand the country’s successful implementation of the WHO Package of Essential Noncommunicable (PEN) Disease Interventions for Primary Health Care (PEN-Plus) strategy in Kono District.

Mbale, Uganda – The World Health Organization (WHO) is reinforcing its support for Uganda’s ongoing Ebola response efforts, with a high-level delegation visiting Mbale district - one of the affected communities - to assess the situation on the ground and provide essential technical and operational assistance.

The WHO Country Office has achieved a significant milestone by successfully training 28 formally appointed Preventing and Responding to Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PRSEAH) focal points from the Ministry of Health (MoH) at the national and state levels. This initiative has expanded the network of dedicated PRSEAH part-time focal points from WHO and MoH to 55.

Entebbe. Uganda’s Ministry of Health has conducted a training on Ebola disease detection and management for Community Health Worker representatives from Kole, Wakiso, and Mukono districts. The training also focused on developing the Ebola Community Health Workers curriculum. By leveraging community structures and assets, this initiative aims to enhance Uganda’s ability to prevent, detect, and respond to health emergencies.

Brazzaville – An estimated 135 000 women could lose their lives to breast cancer by 2040 in sub-Saharan Africa if urgent actions are not taken to reverse the trends, a new World Health Organization (WHO) report finds.

In a significant diplomatic meeting, Dr Kasonde Mwinga, the newly appointed World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative to Uganda, today presented her credentials to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Henry Oryem Okello in Kampala.

On February 3rd and 4th, around one million people, including children and adults, will be vaccinated against cholera in Luanda, Bengo and Icolo e Bengo. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Health, has the support of The World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Bank.
