Kicking Polio out of Kenya

Rongo, 23rd September 2011 -- A sub-national polio campaign was launched in Rongo district, Kisumu City following a confirmed polio case in the same district last month. The launch graced by the Assistant Minister for Public Health and Sanitation, Hon. Dr James Gesami, was held at the Rongo Primary School, it was attended by senior government officers from the national, provincial and district levels, area political and religious leaders, partners, including the WHO Kenya Country Representative, Dr. Abdoulie Jack, school going children, and members of the public and media.

Kenya Launches Ten Valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV 10)

Nairobi, 14th February 2011 - Hundreds of infants in Kenya received their first shots against pneumococcal disease today at a special event to celebrate the global roll out of vaccines targeting the world’s biggest child killer –pneumonia.

The ceremony held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, was presided over by Kenya’s President, His Excellency Hon Mwai Kibaki.

First National Forum on Non-communicable Diseases

Nairobi-Kenya, 23rd August 2011 – Kenya held the First National Forum on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) today in Nairobi. The forum was officially inaugurated by the Right Honorable Prime Minister, Hon. Raila Odinga at a colorful opening ceremony also attended by the Health Ministers; Hon. Kenya hosted the First African Regional workshop on coordinated approaches to pneumonia and diarrhea prevention and control. The Director of Public Health and Sanitation, Dr. Sharif Shenaz officially opened the four-day workshop titled "protect, prevent and treat" on Tuesday 25th January 2011. The workshop, the first in a series of regional workshops aims at finding synergetic actions accelerating the implementation of the Global Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Pneumonia (GAPP) and diarrhea among children under five years of age.

Kenya Commemorates World TB Day 2013

Nairobi Kenya, 22 March 2013 -- As a build up to this year’s World TB Day (WTBD) Commemorations, the country took the opportunity to sensitize the public and the media fraternity on national issues related to the TB epidemic. This year’s national celebrations commemorated under the global theme “Stop TB in my lifetime” was held in Nairobi at a media briefing and a field event held at one of the informal settlements.
