Nigeria Country Office 2021 Annual Report

I am happy to share the WHO Nigeria 2021 annual report with you.

In 2021, WHO Nigeria took many exceptional strides in implementing the Organization’s mandate as indicated in the 13th General Programme of work, the AFRO Transformation Agenda and the WHO Nigeria’s 3rd  Country Cooperation Strategy (CCSIII).

The steps taken aligned with the Federal Government’s agenda and efforts toward improving the Health Indices of the country despite the COVID-19 pandemic which continues to pose major challenges to achieving set targets.

It is worth noting that in 2021, the country office went through the Functional Review process (Human Resource component). What made the functional review process in Nigeria unique was that its implementation took place at roughly the same time as the Polio Eradication Programme ramped down, following the certification of the country as wild poliovirus free in 2020.

Notwithstanding the challenges, WHO Nigeria waded the stormy waters and provided the required type, quality, and level of support in line with the needs and priorities of the country.

Equally, with extant insecurity, WHO continued to provide support to the states in the Northeast to build their capacity to respond to and contain outbreaks and other health emergencies in the face of the protracted humanitarian crisis.

Furthermore, WHO’s stewardship towards Health Security has been widely recognized and acknowledged as consistent with universal best practices. Our work is in the public and widely published to create visibility for not only WHO Nigeria but the entire organization.

This annual report highlights the work of the WHO from January to June 2021 ( December 2021). The activities featured herein are by no means exhausted but implemented with technical and financial support through WHO in Nigeria; facilitated by its presence at all levels of governance (national, state, local government, and wards).
