As part of effort to mitigate against the worrisome early signs of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, the Adamawa State Government in partnership with the World Health Organization has embarked on community sensitization campaigns across five Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state to increase risk messages about the COVID-19 and dispel associated misinformation including about the vaccine.

Bauchi, 2 August, 2021 - In a bid to curb the on-going cholera outbreak in Bauchi State and possibly the northeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria, the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with health authorities in Bauchi state has deployed Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) in combination with other community control measures to stop the transmission of the disease and save lives. A total of 710,212 persons one year and above have been vaccinated with the OCV in the five-day reactive campaign that ended on 28 July 2021 in the first cycle.

Nigeria strengthens Food Safety, Launches Unified Training Manuals

Abuja, 29 July, 2021 - To build an effective food safety system for Nigerians, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) launched a Unified Food Safety Training Manuals for capacity building of food vendors, food handlers, food manufacturers and plethora of personnel in the entire food supply chain in the country. The manual is in line with one of the objective (3.1) of the National Policy for Food System and Implementation Strategy (NPFSIS).

Nigeria records gain in fight against tuberculosis amidst coronavirus pandemic  

Abuja, 21 July, 2021 - Response to the coronavirus pandemic notwithstanding, data indicate that there has been an increase in annual tuberculosis (TB) case notification due to strategic intervention by  the  National Tuberculosis, Buruli Ulcer and Leprosy Control Program (NTBLCP), in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) and other stakeholders working on TB control and elimination in Nigeria. 

Home-based care boosts Nigeria’s COVID-19 fight

Lagos – When Zainab Olowoyo got COVID-19, she was one of thousands of people residing in the populous Lagos State whose case was not severe enough for her to be sent to the nearest isolation unit. Instead, Olowoyo received hospital-level care in her own home through a Home-Based Care programme implemented by the state government in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). She had a smooth recovery and was cleared of the virus within 10 days.
