Maiduguri, 30 March 2017- On that fateful day - 13th March 2017, mobile Hard-to-Reach (H-T-R) Team 07 was in Pela Olla community, Hauwul Local Government Area (LGA), Borno state, for its routine healthcare delivery sessions until a call came from a desperate father-to- be, Malam Mohammed whose wife, Hanatu was in labour.

It was Hanatu’s first delivery experience. The nearest health facility is located 10 kilometres away and no healthcare worker could be reached.

Abuja, 30 March 2017- States sharing border settlements with neighbouring countries of Niger, Cameroun and Benin have completed scheduled synchronized vaccinations with different levels of successes recorded during the first National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) in 2017 aimed at stopping polio transmission in Nigeria and ensuring non- resurgence of the virus in polio-free countries. 

Japan Supports WHO’s Emergency Programme in Northeast Nigeria

Abuja, 31 March 2017 - The Government of Japan recently announced a contribution of USD 903,000 towards World Health Organization’s (WHO) Emergency Programme in the crisis-affected Northeastern region of Nigeria. The contribution will benefit approximately 400,000 women, men and children through the provision of medicines and medical equipment, integrated basic primary health care services, establishment of effective referral mechanism for severally ill patients and strengthening of health sector coordination.

External Assessment Team Applauds Response To Polio Outbreak in Nigeria.

Kaduna, 04 April, 2017 - The polio Outbreak Response Assessment (OBRA) team with representation from the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) partnership has congratulated the Nigerian government for the significant progress so far made in response to the 2016 polio outbreak. The commendation was contained in a presentation to government and partners during a debriefing meeting in Kaduna on 03 April 2017.

Borno Scales Up Preparedness for Meningitis Outbreak

Maiduguri, 11 April 2017 - Although, Borno has reported 22 suspected cases of meningitis in 2017, yet no case has been confirmed in the State. Preparedness measures to contain any outbreak have been put in place including prepositioning of additional 7000 doses of ceftriaxone, reactivation of Rapid Response Team, community sensitization and capacity building for surveillance focal points with support from World Health Organization (WHO).

Sokoto, 28 April 2017 - The release of 823,000  doses of meningitis vaccine to combat an outbreak of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) in Sokoto will protect  more than 800,000 people  across nine Local Government Areas (LGAs), the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kakale Shehu, says.  Sokoto is one of six states in Nigeria where the number of meningitis cases has passed the epidemic threshold during the ongoing outbreak.
