Abuja, 13 June 2017 - The Taraba State Governor, His Excellency Darius Dickson Ishaku is seeking greater collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) in meeting the health needs of the his people. To show his commitment, the Governor paid an advocacy visit to the WHO country Representative (WR) Dr Wondimagegnehu Alemu, in his office in Abuja on 09 June 2017.

Enugu, 14 June 2017 - The Enugu state Commissioner for Health Dr Samuel Ngwu remains convinced that the support given by World Health Organization (WHO) is instrumental to building sustainable institutional capacity for disease surveillance and immunization in Nigeria. The commissioner made this declaration at the quarterly review meeting of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) cluster in Enugu conducted on 13-15 June 2017.

Abuja, 20 June 2017 - In an effort to support the eradication of polio in Nigeria, the German Government through the KfW has signed a grant of ten (10) million euros to support the activities and sustain the gains of polio eradication programme in the country.  The grant which will be released through the German Development Bank, KfW, will make available seven (7) million euros through WHO and three (3) million euro through UNICEF for polio operations costs.

Nasarawa, 27 June 2017 - The Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NAPHDA) has adopted instruments of World Health Organization (WHO) accountability framework to improve efficiency of the health workforce and instill a culture that makes personnel highly responsible. The framework, which rewards outstanding performance, also sanctions staff members with dwindling outcomes.

Calabar, 05 July 2017 - Over the past three years, World Health Organization (WHO), with support from the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) human resources for health (HRH) project, has supported Cross River State in developing mechanisms for policy-driven interventions to improve HRH landscape. WHO had through the project, also supported the state’s Ministry of Health (MOH) to develop an evidence-based, gender-mainstreamed HRH Policy, HRH Strategic plan and Task shifting/sharing policy.

Sokoto, 08 July 2017 - Governors, Legislators, the Sultan of Sokoto, Government functionaries and Development partners on 8th July 2017 converged in Sokoto state to flag-off the July 2017 round of Sub-National Immunization Days (IPDs) campaign. The symbolic occasion was a unique opportunity to demonstrate collective commitment in the final battle against the poliovirus in Nigeria.

Among many women who brought their children to the WHO-supported mobile team for free healthcare services was Aisha, a 29-year-old mother of 6. Keeping her children healthy is a top priority. However, she lives in Ngandu, a remote village located in Kaga, Borno state, Nigeria, which for several years was cut off from regular health services due to conflict.
