Lusaka, 27 February 2009 -- The Ministry of Health today launched the second edition of the National Protocol Guidelines for the Integrated Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission of HIV and the training package for health care providers and district programme managers. The Deputy Minister of Health Honourable Mendoi Akakandelwa officially launched the guidelines at the ceremony which was held at the Ministry of Health office grounds. Lusaka, 4 July 2009 -- Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, the President of the Nippon Foundation/Sasakawa Health Memorial Foundation (NF/SHMF) and WHO Goodwill Ambassador for the Elimination of Leprosy visited Zambia from 29th June to 4th July 2009 to follow-up on the country’s Leprosy elimination achievements. He was met by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr. Rupiah Bwezani Banda at State House on 2nd July 2009. Mr. Sasakawa’s message to the President was that of making the country free from Leprosy by ensuring that it is put high on the health agenda.

Lusaka, 30 July 2009 -- The Ministry of Health and partners today launched the National programme on male circumcision and the National Male Circumcision Strategy and Implementation Plan 2010 - 2020 at a ceremony which was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Health Hon. Mwendoi Akakandelwa.

Lusaka, 05 October 2009 -- The World Health Organization Country Office for Zambia donated a computer, printer and a UPS to the office of the Lusaka District Commissioner today as a way of building capacity in that office in terms of epidemic prevention and control. The Lusaka District Commissioner’s office is spearheading this campaign under the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Programme.

21 October 2009 -- The final review meeting for the six African countries implementing the WHO demonstration project on strengthening cervical cancer prevention programmes opened in Lusaka on 20th October, 2009. This meeting has brought together more than forty participants from the participating countries which include Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

25 April 2010 -- Zambia joined the rest of the world in commemorating the World Malaria Day (WMD) on 25th April under the theme “Counting malaria out”. The focus on the importance of engaging communities in the fight against malaria characterised the commemoration in Zambia.

Usaka 25th October, 2010 -- The Regional Director for the World Health Organization, African Region, Dr. Luis Gomes Sambo arrived in Lusaka today for an official visit at the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Zambia. He is visiting the country from 25th to 28th October, 2010. Dr. Sambo was met at the Lusaka international airport by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Dr. Peter Mwaba, and other senior government officials, the WHO Representative, Dr. Olusegun Babaniyi and staff from the WHO Country Office.

Lusaka, 14 March 2011 -- A cross-border meeting between Angola, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia and Zambia is taking place in Lusaka from 14th to 18th March 2011. The five-day meeting has been convened by the WHO Regional Office for Africa (WHO/AFRO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health in Zambia to provide a forum for discussing and formalizing inter-country strategies for the common cross-border disease threats and use of fake and counterfeit drugs.
