Lusaka, 4th December 2015 - Zambia joined the international community to commemorate the World AIDS Day under the theme “Zambia’s future, Getting to Zero New HIV Infections.” The WHO Country Office provided financial support towards the commemoration of this event and was part of the events in Livingstone, Southern province, which was the venue for the national commemoration. The national World AIDS Day commemoration was officially launched through a television broadcast by the Minister of Health on 30th November 2015.

Zambia commemorates World Tuberculosis Day under the theme "Unite to End TB"

Lusaka, 29th March 2016 - Zambia joined the rest of the international community to commemorate World TB Day under the theme “Unite to end TB.” The official launch of the commemorative activities took place in Ndola district on the copperbelt province on 23rd March 2016. The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya was the Guest of Honour. In his statement to mark the World TB Day, Dr. Chilufya said that Zamia had a high TB burden of 638 per 100,000 population as indicated in the national TB prevalence survey of 2014.

Highlights of the commemoration of the World Health Day in Zambia

Lusaka, 8th April 2016 - The World Health Day was commemorated in Zambia on 7th April under the theme  “Beat Diabetes” in Shibuyunji, one of the rural districts in Lusaka Province. The major highlights of the event were the official launch of the First “WHO Global Report on Diabetes” by the  Acting Minister of Health, Honourable Joseph Katema and the handover of 12,000 copies of the National Non-Communicable Diseases Strategic Plan for 2013-2016 by the WHO Representative, Dr. Jacob Mufunda to the Acting Minister of Health.

The Commemoration of World Malaria Day 2016 in Zambia

Lusaka, 30 May 2016 - The commemoration of the World Malaria Day (WMD) 2016 in Zambia was held on 25th April, 2016 in Katete District, Eastern Province at Vulamukoko Rural Health Centre. The theme for the commemoration was “End Malaria for Good”. The theme is reflective of the vision of a world free from malaria as provided in the Global Malaria Strategy for Malaria 2016-2030.

WHO Country Office signs a financing agreement with African Development Bank (ADB) o...

Lusaka, June 6, 2016 – On 19th May 2016, the World Health Organisation Country Office signed a financing agreement with the African Development Bank (ADB) on  leveraging mobile technology to improve access to basic health services in Zambia. Through this agreement, the ADB will provide WHO a grant  amounting to US$ 385,000  to support the Ministry of Health in  implementation of the Mhealth initiative.

Third Annual Pharmacy Research Conference held in Zambia

The third Annual Pharmacy Research Conference was held in Lusaka from 19th - 20th July 2016 under the theme ‘Reducing Disease Burden through Pharmaceutical Care and Research’. The conference was convened by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) and was supported by the World Health Organization, Zambia AIDs Related Tuberculosis Project (ZAMBART) and other Cooperating Partners . The conference brought together close to 100 participants from government and private institutions including academia and the Pharmaceutical Association of Zambia.

Lusaka, 24th August 2016 - WHO Country Office staff are undergoing a training course on the National District Health Information System from 22-27 August 2016. The training which is facilitated by trainers from the Directorate of Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Health is intended to equip the WHO staff with skills on how to use the web-based health facility database called District Health Information System (DHIS2) and to provide access rights for using the facility.

Lusaka,  21 September 2016 - In its continued efforts to improve child health and survival, the Ministry of Health introduced the Measles Rubella vaccine (MR) in the national routine immunisation system. The vaccine is being introduced through the nationwide preventive vaccination campaign targeting a total of 6,926,757 children aged 9 months to under 15 years. The vaccination campaign runs from 19th to 24th September 2016 and covers a total of 103 districts in all the 10 provinces in the country.
