WHO Appoints Dr Ndoungou Salla Ba as Head of WHO Liaison Office, Zanzibar
Zanzibar — The World Health Organization (WHO) Tanzania welcomes the appointment of Dr Ndoungou Salla Ba as the head of WHO Liaison Office in Zanzibar, marking a significant step in strengthening collaboration between WHO and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
WHO Representative to Tanzania, Dr Alex Gasasira, warmly welcomed Dr Ba to her new role. “I am pleased to announce the appointment and arrival of Dr Ndoungou Salla Ba in Zanzibar. Dr Ba is a seasoned public health leader whose extensive experience and strategic vision will further deepen WHO’s collaboration with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and enhance our collective efforts to advance national, regional, and global health priorities,” said Dr Alex Gasasira.
Dr Ba brings over 30 years of experience across Africa and internationally, with expertise in health systems strengthening, policy engagement, and strategic partnerships. She has held senior roles within WHO, including Coordinator of the Country Focus Coordination Unit at the Regional Director’s Office for Africa, and as acting WHO Representative in Rwanda, where she strengthened technical cooperation with government and UN partners. She also led Multicountry Assignment Teams (MCATs), delivering high-level technical assistance and reinforcing WHO’s AFRO country’s impact.
In her new role, Dr Ba will work closely with the Ministry of Health Zanzibar, development partners, and WHO teams to support national health priorities and advance progress towards universal health coverage.
Her appointment reflects WHO’s continued commitment to supporting Zanzibar in improving health outcomes for all.
