Mpox Response in the WHO African Region - April to June 2025
Improved Regional Surveillance Coordination:
Weekly joint reviews with partners (WHO, Africa CDC, IFRC, US CDC, AFENET) helped track transmission and guide response in 20 countries based on local epidemiology, contributing to reduced transmission transmission rates and relative control in Sierra Leone, Burundi, Angola, and others.
Strengthened Data Systems for Decision-Making:
WHO led the setup of joint mpox data platforms and analytics tools and key performance indicators, enabling real-time insights and faster, risk-based decisions at national and regional levels and contributing to early trend detection and effective outbreak control.
Enhanced Country Support Through Joint Missions:
Field visits to Sierra Leone and Uganda helped review national plans and adapt the SPRP 2.0 to local outbreak contexts strengthening tailored response strategies.
