AIRA Infodemic Insights Report — October 15–30, 2025 (No. 173)
This report provides an overview of infodemic dynamics in the WHO African Region between 15 and 30 October 2025, highlighting a major spike of mpox-related discussions in Namibia (symptom confusion, calls for lockdown, and rising conspiracy theories), strong political tensions and practical information needs around Rift Valley fever in Senegal, growing public concerns and misinformation linked to the “HIV protection injection” in Southern Africa, and renewed anxieties in Nigeria about Lassa fever (corruption allegations, domestic prevention needs). The period also saw the emergence of dangerous WhatsApp voice notes in DRC (Butembo) spreading false claims about yellow fever vaccines.
