The Regional Director for Africa Meets Botswana's Acting President

Gaborone, Botswana - 6th October 2017: The Acting President of the Republic of Botswana His Honour Vice President Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi hosted the Regional Director at the Office of the President for high level discussions. The meeting was the culmination of a three day State Visit to Botswana. Acting President Masisi was accompanied by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Honourable Dorcas Makgato, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Ms Shenaaz el Halabi. The Regional Director was accompanied by the WHO Representative to Botswana, Dr Martins Ovberedjo.
 
The closed meeting discussed issues of mutual benefit to the country and WHO at the highest level. The Acting President congratulated Dr Moeti on her appointment and appreciated WHO’s support over the years. He assured the Regional Director and WHO of Botswana’s continued support.
 
The Regional Director thanked Botswana for her support and commended the political leadership for   active support and contribution to WHO work. She also commended the country for its vision and admirable track record in addressing the health needs of the people of Botswana as evidenced by the restructuring of the Ministry and revitalization of Primary Health Care,  indicating that it is ultimately the best way forward towards achieving the health related SDGs, leaving no one behind.
