La République centrafricaine accueille une concertation transfrontalière face à la menace de la maladie à virus Bundibugyo

Une réunion transfrontalière de haut niveau s’est ouverte ce vendredi 14 août 2026 à Bangui, en République centrafricaine pour renforcer la préparation et la coordination face aux risques liés à la maladie à virus Bundibugyo. Initiée par l’Organisation mondiale de la Santé (OMS), cette rencontre qui réunit le Congo, l’Ouganda, la RCA, la RDC et le Soudan du Sud, vise à renforcer la coopération régionale face à la menace de la maladie à virus Bundibugyo et aux urgences sanitaires transfrontalières.

Uganda safeguards essential health services during Ebola outbreak response

At a health clinic in Arua, a border town in northern Uganda, staff are on high alert after unsuspectingly attending to a patient who was later diagnosed with Ebola disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus. It was 8 May 2026, before the outbreak was declared in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo, and the staff’s index of suspicion was low. After the patient asked to be discharged, she travelled to Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, where she tested positive for the virus.

Screening at Uganda's points of entry and exit strengthens Ebola outbreak response

Since the declaration of an outbreak of Ebola disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus on 15 May 2026, Ugandan health authorities have implemented a range of measures to detect cases early and reduce the risk of further spread. Alongside surveillance, case management and infection prevention and control, entry and exit screening at border crossings and airports has become an important part of the outbreak response.
