The mission of the Sub-Regional Ebola Operations and Coordination Centre (SEOCC) is to provide a platform for agencies and governments to  coordinate their response to the Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak in West Africa. The SEOCC supports the national, sub-regional and field level response required to end the outbreak.  The goal of the SEOCC is to mitigate the consequences and end the outbreak as soon as possible. 

As an outcome of the Ministerial Meeting held in Accra, Ghana in July 2014, the SEOCC has quickly established itself as a hub to support the affected countries in West Africa.  It was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Guinea in the presence of partners on 24 July 2014. Although the health sector response is vital and foremost to treat the sick and control the outbreak, the consequences of the outbreak go beyond health. The impact of EVD in West Africa goes far beyond the region.  It is necessary for response agencies at the international, national and local levels to work together as partners.  In the SEOCC, partners from multiple sectors identify needs and work together to coordinate the implementation of interdependent activities.

The SEOCC’s dedicated role in ending the EVD outbreak in West Africa is vital. The SEOCC platform in coordinating the necessary multi-agency and governmental response will continue until the EVD outbreak is over.
