The Federal Ministry of Health (MoH) officially launched a nationwide integrated measles vaccination campaign on 22 December 2022 in an event officiated by honourable State Minister of Health Dr Dereje Duguma in Siriti Health Center at Akaki Kaliti Sub-City in Addis Ababa. The national launching event was conducted in the presence of government officials, donors, immunization partners, religious and community leaders and the media.

The Ethiopian Country Office of the World Health Organization- (WCO Ethiopia) successfully completed a two-day planning workshop in consultation with government stakeholders and development partners.


Held from 12th - 13th December 2022, the planning workshop aimed at aligning with the WCO Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) 2021-2025, the 13th General Program of Work (GPW 13), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and the National Health Sector Transformation Plan II of Ethiopia.

Sa’Ada, 36, was displaced from her home in Gunagado Woreda of Jarar Zone, Somali Region due to drought. She and her husband came to Qoto Rooble Kebele in Kebribayah Woreda with their nine children in search of pasture for their livestock and food for their family. After walking a few miles to their destination, she resorted to hiring two pick-up trucks for her cattle and goat to preserve their energy as they were already affected by the lack of feed and water.

World Health Organization (WHO) has donated a field vehicle and an ambulance to Afar Regional Health Bureau. The ambulance was procured with funding from the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office as part of its support to improving essential health service delivery at war-affected health facilities in northern Ethiopia, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health services, and will be used for reproductive, maternal and child health services at Dupti Hospital, including for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV).

The country has also launched Sector Specific Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance prevention and containment which is the first of its kind in the World Health Organization African Region.
