About WHO Kenya

WHO Kenya works in partnership with the Government of Kenya, county governments, UN agencies and development partners to strengthen the country's health system. WHO provides technical support, capacity building, policy guidance and coordination to Kenya's Ministry of Health and the 47 county health systems, helping translate global and regional health priorities into action on the ground.

Our Strategic Priorities

WHO Kenya's work is organised into three clusters:

  • Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Control (DPC), covering immunisation, communicable and non-communicable diseases, nutrition, and the social determinants of health.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR), covering health emergency preparedness, disease surveillance, and outbreak and crisis response.
  • Health Systems Strengthening (HSS), covering health workforce, health financing, primary health care, health information systems, and local manufacturing of health commodities.

How We Work

Globally, WHO operates under the guidance of its Fourteenth General Programme of Work (GPW 14), the 2025-2028 strategy that advances health equity, resilient health systems, Universal Health Coverage, health emergency protection and healthier lives. At the regional level, this is translated into priorities for the African region, and further into disease- and programme-specific regional strategies. In Kenya, these priorities are implemented through the WHO Country Cooperation Strategy 2024-2030, aligned with the Kenya Health Policy 2014-2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework Kenya 2022-2026.
