Dr. Daniel Kertesz

Dr. Daniel Kertesz is the WHO Representative in Mozambique since March 2012. He holds a Degree in Medicine from McMaster University in Canada in 1985. He also has post graduate qualifications in Epidemiology from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2010. He is trained in internal medicine and infectious diseases and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.  He joined WHO in 1997 at the Country Office in Mali, working with Polio Eradication Initiative and Expanded program of Immunization (EPI) a position he also held in Angola from 2003 to 2006. Dr. Daniel Kertesz has worked as WHO representative in Ghana from September 2008- March 2012 and in Guinea Bissau from March 2006 to September 2008. Prior to coming to WHO, Dr. Daniel Kertesz was Chief of the Division of Respiratory Diseases and an assistant director of the Field Epidemiology Training Program at Health Canada.

Dr Abdou Moha

Dr Abdou Moha is a medical doctor specialized in public health. He joined WHO Mozambique in December 2004 as 3 by 5 country team leader to support the scaling up of access to antiretroviral treatment for HIV/AIDS patients. Before joining WHO Mozambique, he worked as senior reproductive health technical advisor for UNFPA and as senior technical advisor for strengthening the national health system of Niger for the World Bank. He worked more than 16 years for the Ministry of Health of Niger where he held successively the position of regional director of health, national director of health and secretary general of the Ministry of Health. He holds a Ph.D in International Health and Development and a master degree in epidemiology from Tulane University, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (USA). He also holds a master degree in health system management from the Institute of Tropical Medicine Prince Leopold, Antwerpen, Belgium.

Stela Campos

Stela Campos is the Administrative Assistant and Finance at WHO in Mozambique since October 1983. She joined the UN Family in June 1981 working for FAO project at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Dr Alicia Carbonell

Dr Alicia Carbonell is a medical doctor specialized in Gynecology and Obstetrics. She started working in WHO Mozambique in 2003 as a Reproductive Health National Program Officer (NPO). Previous experience includes work with UNFPA and International NGOs. She works in collaboration with the National Reproductive Health program at the Ministry of Health supporting the implementation/scaling up of Reproductive Health interventions and the Making Pregnancy Safer Initiative.

Dr Eva de Carvalho

Dr Eva de Carvalho has worked at WHO Mozambique since 2003 as a Malaria National Program Officer (NPO). She works in collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program at the Ministry of Health supporting the implementation/scaling up of malaria interventions (mosquito nets distribution, indoor residual spraying, case management including community malaria management, information, education and communication activities, and program management). She is a Medical Doctor and holds a Master in Public health in Health Information Systems from the Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique.

José Alexandre Chivale

José Alexandre Chivale is Medical Technician, by Instituto de Ciência de Saúde de Maputo – Mozambique 1985, Specialized in Public Health by Faculty of Public Health of Universidade de São Paulo – Brazil, 1995. He is working as NPO – Logistician for EPI, since March 2007. Before joint WHO, he worked for MoH, with following positions: Head of Epidemiological Surveillance Unit at Central Level of MoH, 1997 – 2007; Focal Point of Emergency at MOH and Member of National Technical Council for Disaster Management, 1998 – 2007; Head of Provincial Dept. of Planning and Cooperation in Cabo Delgado, 1996-1997; Head of Provincial Repartition of Health Community in Cabo Delgado, 1991-1994; Provincial Coordinator of HIV/Aids Program in Cabo Delgado, 1989 – 1991; Director of Rural Hospital and District Director of Health in Montepuez – Cabo Delgado, 1986 – 1989.

Dr Hilde De Graeve

Dr Hilde De Graeve holds a degree of Medical Doctor from the University of Ghent in Belgium, with post graduate education in tropical medicine and sexual and reproductive health. She attained a master's degree in health systems management from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She worked nearly 14 years for the Ministry of Health in Zimbabwe. She held different positions and gained extensive experience in the clinical field, hospital management and administration, district health care and public health. Prior to moving to Mozambique she was medical manager in a program for prevention and care of sexual violence in children and adolescents. She joined WHO in Mozambique in March 2007 and is working on human resources for health, health system strengthening and sector wide approach in health.

Dr Raquel Mahoque

Dra Raquel Mahoque is working at WHO Mozambique since June/2007 as a Non Communicable Disease (NCD), Injury and Mental Health National Program Officer (NPO). She works in collaboration with the NCD Department and Mental Health Department at the Ministry of Health supporting the implementation of NCD and Injury activities and programs as well as the implementation of the Mental Health strategic plan. Dr Mahoque is a Medical Doctor, pos-graduate in Public Heath related to Injury at the Eduardo Mondlane University.

Dr Alzira Mabote

Alzira Bernardino Pene Mabote has been working at WHO Mozambique since July 2010 as EPI surveillance focal person. She works in collaboration with the Epidemiological Surveillance/EPI unit at the Ministry of Health. Alzira Mabote is a Biologist and graduated at the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo.

Maria da Glória Moreira

Maria da Glória Moreira has been working for WHO in Mozambique as Health Information and Promotion (HIP) officer since 1997. She is a member of the WHO Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) and the WHO Regional Epidemic Rapid Response Network (RRRT). Before joining WHO, Glória Moreira worked for the Mozambique News Agency (AIM) as a journalist from 1987 to 1997. Glória Moreira is a graduate of the Journalism School in Maputo (1986). In 1997, she was awarded a degree on International Relations and Diplomacy by the Higher Institute of International Relations in Maputo. She speaks Portuguese, English and the local languages spoken in the southern region of Mozambique.

Dr Manuel Novela

Dr Manuel Novela is working at WHO Mozambique since June/2007 as Enlarged Program of Immunizations (EPI) Program Officer. He works in collaboration with the EPI unit in the Department for Health Community at the Ministry of Health supporting the implementation of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) activities and programs. Dr Manuel is a Medical Doctor graduated at the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo. He also holds a Master of Public Health from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), in Brisbane, Australia.

Eva das Dores Pascoal

Eva das Dores Pascoal is an economist, with a degree of Master on Financial Economics by the University of London, School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS). She joined WHO Mozambique in 1997. Previous experience includes work within the Ministry of Finance. At present, working on Health Economics related areas, namely Health financing, Macroeconomics and Health, and social determinants of health. She collaborated with EPI, Malaria and HIV/AIDS costing related initiatives and supported proposals development for submission to the Global Fund. She also collaborated with UNDP on Needs Assessment and Costing of MDG's and with UNAIDS on National AIDS Spending Assessment. She speaks, Portuguese English and Spanish.

Dr Nkunku Sebastião

Dr Nkunku Sebastião has been serving as Diseases prevention and Control Officer in WHO Mozambique since May 2007. He is a medical doctor specialized in Public Health, at the Agostinho Neto University, Angola, in 1996. He holds a Master degree in biomedical sciences from the Prince Leopold Tropical Institute, Antwerpen, Belgium (1992), as well as a certificate of epidemiology from the School of Medicine and Pharmacy of Bamako, Mali (1987). Before joining WHO Mozambique in May 2007, he had been working at WHO AFRO/Brazzaville, as Emergency Public Health officer for Central Africa countries (2003-04), and as Scientist at the Other Tropical Diseases (OTD) unit (2005-April 2007). Dr Nkunku has worked as a National Programme Officer (NPO) for malaria in Angola at WHO country level, since 2001. He has also worked as an investigator in Angola, in a joint project between the Swiss Tropical Institute, WHO and the Institute for Trypanosomiasis Control, since 1997. Dr Nkunku speaks Portuguese, French and English.

Dr Daisy Trovoada

Dr Daisy Trovoada is the National Program Officer in charge of the Child and Adolescent Health program at the WHO Mozambique country office. Dr Daisy is a medical doctor specialized in Pediatrics with background in neonatology (Université René Descartes, Paris V, France). She also holds diplomas in Epidemiology, Bordeaux, France, in Tropical diseases and Emergency care (Université Pierre et Marie Curie – Paris VI). Before joining WHO in 2005, Dr Trovoada worked many years as a pediatrician in Paris (France) then in Maputo. She speaks French, Portuguese and English.

Flatiel Vilanculos

Flatiel Vilanculos serves as Documentation Officer for WHO in Mozambique since early 2004. He works in collaboration with the Ministry of Health documentation centre in the collection, cataloguing, indexing, management and dissemination of health information. Before joining WHO he worked as a Documentalist at the Eduardo Mondlane University, in Maputo. He also collaborated with the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publication (INASP) as Country Coordinator for the Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERI). His expertise covers Librarianship, Knowledge Management, Information search and research, Management of Electronic Resources. He holds a Master Degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Botswana.

Ms. Vainess Mfungwe

Ms. Vainess Mfungwe is the Administrative Officer at WCO Mozambique since January 2011 she holds a Diploma in Clinical and Medical Sciences, Certificates in Health Economics, Monitoring and Evaluation of Disease Control Programmes Health Project Planning, Implementation and Management, general management. She is currently undertaking an MBA with concentration in Human Resource and Project Management at Regenesys Business School in South Africa. She has vast experience in Primary Health care, programme administration Finance and Human resource Management both at national and international levels
