Terms of reference of the Commission

The General objective of the Commission is to generate evidence on the key factors influencing the current state of Women’s Health in WHO African region and to provide recommendations as to what needs to be done from political, socio-economic, cultural and health systems aspect towards improving Women’s health and particularly reducing the unacceptable level of maternal mortality in sub-Saharan Africa.

Specific objectives of the Commission

  • Produce a report on the political, economic, socio-cultural and other factors influencing the current state of women’s health and the role of women’s health in socio-economic development of Member States.
  • Use the key recommendations of the report to advocate for improved women’s health and availability of more resources for the implementation of international conventions and instruments related to women’s health and development adopted by countries.
  • Use the report for placing women’s health issues high on the political agenda of Members States and galvanize actions of member States and partners for improvement of women’s health.
