The World Health Organization hands over two trunk libraries to Nyangao Nursing School in Lindi Region
On the 6th September, 2013, the WHO Country Office handed over to the Nyangao Nursing School, two blue trunk libraries to strengthen district health services in Lindi Region. The handing over occasion took place at the WHO County Office premises and was witnessed by the Principal of the Nyangao Nursing school, Mr. Kizito Tamba; the HRH officer from Nyangao Nursing School and WHO Country Office staff.
In his handing over remarks, the WHO Representative, Dr. Rufaro Chatora stated that the Blue Trunk Library has been developed by the World Health Organization for installation in district health facilities in Africa as a means of compensating for the lack of up-to-date medical and health information. He elaborated that “the Blue Trunk Library does not replace continuing education. Its mission is rather to provide validated information to support training activities, health promotion and community information in peripheral health centres”.
Dr. Chatora further explained that, “among the works chosen, priority has been given to practical manuals (especially those published by WHO) offering easily accessible solutions to the medical, public health and management problems medical staff may have to face. Differing levels of education among district medical staff have also been taken into account. The same topic may be addressed in different publications from a different point of view: that of the physician, the nurse or the nursing auxiliary”. He concluded by urging the Nursing School officials to ensure that the health professionals in the district have access to the collection which contains more than one hundred books on medicine and public health.
In his acceptance speech, the Principal of the Nursing School expressed appreciation to the World Health Organization (WHO) for the timely support and assured that the libraries donated will be maintained and used for the intended purposes.
