Freetown 8 April 2014 - WHO Country Office in Sierra Leone donated various personal protective equipment (PPE) in response to the Ebola outbreak in neighboring Guinea and Liberia. This second of at least 4 more consignments included more than 2,000 PPE suits, respirators, gloves, face shields, face masks, gowns , body bags and bio hazard plastic bags.

Handing over the items to Dr Amara Jambai, the Director of Disease Prevention and Control on behalf of the Minister, Dr Jacob Mufunda the WHO Representative said the donation was intended to protect front line health workers and to boost their confidence to perform their oath to save lives. Furthermore, he pledged the support of WHO in both preparations and response to any outbreak within the country and the sub region.

In his response the Director of Disease Prevention and Control Dr Amara Jambai thanked WHO for the continued support to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation. He assured all that the health workers will do their best to save lives.

Ebola has not been conformed in Sierra Leone. The MoHS has heightened surveillance and health promotion as community awareness and sensitization efforts in preparation of any outbreak. The borders remain open as guided by WHO
