WCO Works for Effective Management of NCDs - WHO Selects Eritrea for WHO PEN Piloting

Asmara, 23 February 2009 - In an effort to strengthen the primary health care and to effectively manage Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs), WHO in collaboration with the MOH has conducted a two day training Workshop for two groups of health Workers from selected health facilities. The purpose of this training is to integrate WHO Package of Essential NCDs (WHO PEN) into the health system at primary level.

This training which took place between the 18th and 21st of February 2009, have drawn 60 Health Workers from selected Health Facilities in the Central Zone. The training which is first of its kind was facilitated by four consultants including the Senior Advisor on Cardiovascular Diseases, Regional Advisors on NCD Management and experts on diabetes and cancer from the HQ and Regional office of the WHO together with national facilitators.
