Planning for round 5 Polio National Immunization Days Campaign underway in Sierra Leone

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation in collaboration with its health sector partners is currently planning to undertake the fifth round of polio National Immunization Days campaign in 2011. The campaign will be conducted from 30 September through 3 October 2011 to vaccinate all children in the country below the age of 5 years against polio.

The national launch is planned to be held in Tombo town in the Western Area rural simultaneously with mini launch in all the districts. District mini launch is expected to increase awareness on polio and routine immunization and encourage active involvement of traditional and religious leaders and the communities. As in previous campaigns, this round will also be synchronized with other West African countries to interrupt the transmission of wild polio virus in the sub-region.
