Dr Moeti pays courtesy call on President Akufo-Addo as part of her three-day official visit to Ghana

Dr Moeti paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.  Accompanying her were the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr Kwaku, Honourable Minister of Health, Madam Tina Mensah, WHO Country Representative, Dr Owen Kaluwa, Officials from WHO AFRO, Dr Kasolo and Dr Kizito and senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
In her discussions with the President, Dr Moeti first congratulated him on his nomination as co-Chair of the eminent Committee on SDGs and thanked the Government of Ghana for inviting her to visit Ghana
Dr Moeti reminded the President about SDG pledges made in 2015 and urged commitment to concrete actions to build stronger, more resilient health systems through UHC to advance Health for All.
Again the Regional Director reiterated that access to essential quality care and financial protection is beneficial for country economies – healthier, more productive people drive economic growth, development, prosperity; UHC will improve health security, better gender equity, and reduce poverty.
President Akufo-Addo mentioned that his Government was striving hard to get the entire population to be directly involved in the development of the country.  This he said meant providing equal opportunities for Ghanaians.  In this regard, the President said access to health care and education were priority for his Government.
“Putting resources in education and health is the most equitable and far reaching intervention that is of much priority to us” he emphasized.
In conclusion, President Akufo-Addo thanked WHO for all the support it provides to the health sector.   “The Technical Assistance provided by WHO is extremely useful.  We appreciate the work being done by WHO”.
