African Vaccination Week (AVW) Togo

An outreach session was held last Tuesday 23 April 2013, within District 5 of Lome, a peripheral area of the capital city. “People have little access to the health center; that’s why we have got the vaccination services closer to them as per the spirit of the AVW”, explained Mrs TENA Kanma Nanah, Communications Officer at the Epidemiological Division, Ministry of Health. Present at the supervisory visit, officials from the Togo Ministry of Health Togo and WHO Colleagues. 

At the time of the visit, about 30 women were attending the session with their babies. The health agent checked the vaccination status of the babies through the vaccination card.  And then give OPV to some, Penta 1 or 3 to others. 

An advocacy meeting was held on the 24 of April at National institute of hygiene, chaired by the DG of Health. WHO, UNICEF  and many other partners attended the meeting, the meeting was to raise awareness on vaccination and in this light, successes end challenges of EPI were presented.
