The mission of the Human Resources Management (HRM) Unit is to promote excellence in HRM in order to achieve high levels of performance and deliver the highest quality services and to provide an environment that actively encourages staff members to learn, to grow and to develop their skills.


Objectives/functions

The objective of the Human Resources Management (HRM) Unit is to provide support to the Clusters / Technical Units and the WHO Country Offices in the area of Human Resources Management.

The functions of the Unit are:

  • To establish /revise temporary and longer term positions, coordinating selection and recruitment processes, reassignment and transfer of staff members.
  • To manage fixed-term and temporary contracts and fixed-term and temporary staff rights and benefits.
  • To provide briefing and advice to all staff and to the technical division managers about benefits and rights and other issues related to human resources management.
  • To provide learning opportunities to allow staff members to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to more efficiently and effectively perform in their current jobs.
  • To provide health services, medical advice and preventive medical care for all staff of the African region and facilitate health promotion programs.
