Dr Jean-Baptiste Roungou was appointed the Director of the Disease Prevention and Control Cluster at the WHO Regional Office for Africa in May 2008. He joined the World Health Organization in 1997 and up to May 2008 had occupied the positions of Epidemiologist with the Polio Eradication Programme in Cōte d'Ivoire, Regional Advisor for "Other Tropical Diseases" at the Regional Office, and WHO Representative to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Prior to joining WHO, Dr Roungou was the Director of Preventive Medicine and Infectious Diseases Control and the National Coordinator of the Child Survival programme in the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs in the Central African Republic.
Dr Roungou holds the degrees of Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health.
