Procurement and Supply Chain Management (PSM)

Main Objective

To contribute to the global prevention and control of HIV/AIDS/STIs by strengthening the capacity of Member States in the WHO African region to ensure equitable access of those in need to more affordable essential medicines and other commodities of assured quality.

Specific Objectives

• To provide normative guidance and strategic direction for scaling-up availability of HIV/AIDS medicines and commodities.
• To provide technical support for sustained access to more affordable HIV/AIDS medicines and commodities.
• To provide support for strengthening quality assurance systems for HIV/AIDS medicines and commodities.
• To promote rational use of and pharmacovigilance for HIV/AIDS medicines and commodities.
• To strengthen partnership for coordinated interventions on procurement and supply chain management in countries.

Expected Products

• Uninterrupted access to more affordable HIV/AIDS medicines and commodities of good quality.
• Procurement and supply chain management systems coordinated by countries.

Main Achievements

• Assessment of procurement and supply chain management system for HIV/AIDS medicines organized and conducted in countries.
• Review of ARVs consumption and monitoring of ARVs needs conducted in countries.
• Support provided for development of procurement and supply chain management plans for medicines and other pharmaceutical products.
