The regional AIDS programme area component is focusing on the contribution of the health sector response to HIV/AIDS through acceleration of prevention and treatment and care. The following strategic approaches are being:
  • Enabling people to know their HIV status through confidential HIV testing and counselling promoting the implementation of PITC approach;
  • Maximizing the health sector's contribution to HIV prevention including new interventions such as male circumcision, positive prevention, prevention among most at risk population;
  • Accelerating the scale-up of HIV/AIDS treatment and care and support including care for children;
  • Increasing the contribution of AIDS program in health system strengthening using the Primary Health care approach;
  • Strengthening the resource mobilization and partnership;
  • Investing in strategic information to guide a more effective response including operational research.
