The mission of Laboratory is to improve the capacity for the prompt confirmation of etiological agents of priority communicable diseases including a Public Health Emergency of International Concern through a strong functional public health laboratory network and monitoring antimicrobial resistance in the Member States.
The core responsibilities are:
  • To establish/support national, sub-regional and regional public health laboratory networks;
  • To improve the capacity for the prompt confirmation of etiological agents of priority communicable diseases and any other Public Health Emergency of  International Concern that can be confirmed by laboratory methods;
  • To detect and follow up the drugs resistance to antimicrobials.
