Country Representative


wr-nigeria-dr-vazDr Rui Gama Vaz is the new WHO Country Representative for Nigeria.  He arrived in Nigeria on Wednesday 12 December 2012 and assumed duties immediately.

Dr Vaz, a national of Mozambique is a Medical Doctor from University Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique with a Masters degree in Public Health from University of Washington in Seattle, USA.

Prior to his reassignment to Nigeria, he assumed since 1997 several functions namely: Programme Area Coordinator for Polio in the WHO Regional Office for Africa in the last seven months; WHO Representative in Angola ai (2 years); Regional Adviser for HIV/AIDS in the Regional Office for Africa (5 years); WHO Liaison Officer in Seychelles (3 years); WHO/EPI/Polio Team Leader in Angola (3 years) and UNAIDS Country Programme Adviser (2 years).

He is married to Mrs Maria Dominica Vaz and they have two children.
