Health Systems & Services Cluster (HSS)

Mission and functions

The mission of the Health Systems & Services Cluster is to contribute to the attainment of the goal of Health for All by supporting the countries of the African Region in the strengthening of their health systems through the development and implementation of community oriented health policies and realistic plans within the context of national socio - economic development, and the improvement of health services performance in terms of quality, effectiveness, efficiency, coverage and equitable accessibility.

The functions of the Cluster are to provide guidance and technical support for:

• Strengthening of national institutional capacities for better organization and management of health systems and services
• Development of human resources for health and community capacities for adequate participation in health development
• Development of policies on health technologies adapted to country needs, norms and standards, and quality assurance programmes
• Development of national capacities for health research and the generation and use of health information to contribute to evidence-based policy development and health management at all levels.
