This component entails contributing to national health laboratory capacity strengthening with particular emphasizes on norms, standards and national laboratory policy.

The key achievements include: establishment of regional External Quality Assessment schemes in microbiology, haematology and clinical chemistry; support to countries to set-up functioning national health laboratory networks; training of nationals on laboratory management, antimicrobial resistance testing, biosafety and laboratory biosecurity and support to countries to establish national quality assessment schemes.
