The Commission on Women's Health in the African Region was launched by H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia on 14 April 2010 to generate evidence on the key factors influencing the current state of women’s health in the WHO African Region and to provide recommendations for improving women’s health, and particularly for reducing the unacceptable level of maternal mortality in sub-Saharan Africa.
