Objectives/functions

The objectives of the program are to provide technical support to countries and their partners of the region in the following areas:

  • Development and implementation of surveillance on magnitude of determinants of violence, injuries and disabilities
  • Preparation of policies, programs and plans of action for the prevention of violence, injuries, disabilities, and hearing and visual impairment including blindness
  • Strengthening of emergency and long term care services for the injured, and developing human resources for management of physical disabilities and visual  impaired people including  blind people
  • Research on and implementation of programs for the prevention of violence, injuries, disability including blindness
  • Implementing the global action plan for the prevention of visual impairment
  • Surveillance on the consequences of violence and injuries
