Training and Research (TRN)

The mission of Training and Research  is
  • To contribute to the strengthening of the capacity and self reliance of Member  States in integrated disease surveillance and response through implementation of an adequate training programme and promotion of applied research.
The core responsibilities are:
  • Coordination of training and research activities in the area of communicable disease surveillance and response.
  • Coordination and support introduction of Integrated Diseases surveillance and Response in Training institution
  • Support to creation of national and inter country field epidemiology training programmes in the region in close collaboration with partners such as CDC-Atlanta, the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET).
  • Adaptation curriculum of existing field epidemiology training programmes to take into account regional strategies on IDSR.
  • Coordination and support in close collaboration with Partners, development of joint priority research projects on Communicable Disease Surveillance and response
  • Establish linkages with relevant Programmes within DDC and AFRO, national, regional and global training networks and institutions/organisations in order to facilitate the implementation of CDS training activities in Member States.
  • Promote and coordinate research directed at obtaining information on the status and trends of relevant diseases and their determinants throughout the Region.
  • Assign priority to supporting operational research to evaluate products, strategies and procedures for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and control of communicable diseases.
