A total of 25 cases and 14 deaths were reported from Isiro and Viadana districts of Oriental Province

Event description

As of 01 September 2012, a total of 25 (17 probable and 8 confirmed) cases had been reported in Haute Uéle in Province Orientale; 26 suspected cases have also been reported. The total number of deaths is 14;

There were 2 new admissions in the Ebola isolation ward on 01 September 2012 bringing total admissions to 5;

Out of 55 specimens analyzed, 8 tested positive;

A total of 152 contacts have been listed.

Actions taken

WHO is supporting the Ministry of Health in the areas of coordination, surveil-lance, field epidemiology, laboratory, case management, outbreak logistics, public information and social mobilization.

Twenty- two (22) health workers were trained on Ebola case management includ-ing infection prevention and control; Discharge kits were prepared for the dis-charged patients; CDC laboratory team started conducting Ebola tests in the field laboratory in Isiro. MSF Suisse is actively involved in case management. Support visit made by the Director of Disease Prevention and Control cluster in AFRO and IHR focal point to DRC and the field team A second WHO logistician arrived in Isi-ro to continue to support outbreak response. Teleconferences are being held be-tween fIsiro field team, AFRO and HQ; Deployment of anthropologist and addition-al staff in being finalized.
