Technical Meeting
Three sessions are planned during the technical segment of the consultatio from the 4th to the 5th of April 2011.
Session 1: will focus on the magnitude of NCDs and their socio-economic impact at the regional level.
Discussions during this session will be on:
- Epidemiology of major NCDs including Mental Health, Violence and Injuries in the African Region
- Risk factors and social determinants for NCDs in the WHO African Region
- NCDs’ socio-economic impacts at regional and country levels
Session 2: will focus on the political and policy relevance of addressing NCDs with a particular focus on developmental challenges faced by developing countries.
Discussions during this session will be on:
- Policies, strategies and guidelines for NCDs prevention and control
- Planning and resource requirements for addressing NCDs in the African region
- The impact of social, economic, and physical environments on NCDs
- Evidence-based, cost-effective interventions
- NCDs, Poverty and the Millennium Development Goals
Session 3: will focus on Challenges and opportunities in the implementation of The Action Plan of the Global Strategy for the prevention and control of NCDs.
Discussions during this session will be on:
- Challenges for governments in implementing the Global Strategy on the Prevention and Control of NCDs and its 2008-2013 Action Plan (Presentation of Country experiences)
- Opportunities for governments in implementing the Global Strategy on the Prevention and Control of NCDs and its 2008-2013 Action Plan
- Review of and consensus on the African common position
