WHO African Region Ministerial Consultation
on Noncommunicable Diseases

From 4 -6 April 2011, the WHO Regional Office for Africa will organize in Brazzaville, Congo, a Regional Ministerial Consultation on the preparation for the First Global Ministerial Meeting on Healthy Lifestyle and Noncommunicable diseases control scheduled for 28-29 in Moscow, and for the UN High-Level Summit of head of States and Governments on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) to be held in New York from 19- 20 September 2011.

The technical segment of the consultation will take place from 4-5 April, followed on 6 April by the ministerial meeting, whose main objective is to develop a common position for the African Region to be conveyed to both the Moscow and the New York meetings. The common position will outline required actions for NCDs prevention and control in the African Region.

The major expected outcome of the Moscow Conference is a Declaration which would serve as a basis and platform to be considered for the September 2011 UN High Level Meeting.
